Hi Lucretia (or shall I say @Geekmommy),

You know, I don't generally like auto-DM's. I've come to ignore them for the most part at this point. But having read your post (and skimmed through some of the interview; hey, I'm being honest here), your auto-DM message is probably one of the few that I actually wouldn't mind reading. It's honest and to the point! Most if not all of the other one's that I've read stick to the usual: "Thanks for the follow! Blah, blah, blah... Check out my site at..."

Do I use auto-DM to message my users or do auto-follow? No. When someone follows me, I usually check out their profile if time permits and if their site has something I like, I sent a message via twitter or leave a comment on their blog. This way, some form of a connection has been made. (Of course my twitter count isn't in the thousands...if it were, well, I might start implementing some of these auto-follow features.)

As Jesse said, “the tracking of those you follow, and those that follow you, and finding ways to retain those followers and build strong relationships with them” is paramount in social marketing. I am all in for any tool that will help me do that. Thanks, Jesse, for all your hard work.

I do the auto-follow with tweetlater, but going to check out SocialToo because they sound like they have more features. I don't mind the DM's, as long as they aren't too spammy, but I too don't even have 2k followers (yet!). I send an auto DM, but it just says Thanks for Following me. Been thinking of changing it but didn't know what I wanted to say... then I read this, and I think I'm going to copy you. LOL! Imitation is the best compliment right? I hadn't thought of it like a voicemail message, but now that makes a lot more sense. Great article!

Lucretia, great article, and it was a pleasure doing this interview. I'll keep you updated as we get some of the other features we discussed!

The auto DM's don't bother me. But I am just getting started and I only have 185 followers. i don't have plans for following 3,000 people though. How would I keep up? :)

I think the idea of the auto-follow is a great one. You are right, it is much easier to go back later and unfollow those that are not of interest than to read through each link first. I only have a few so far and I am still catching up.

Just delete all the emails. Then click your followers link in twitter and just click follow to anyone you're not already following.

Yes, an automated script is going to be extremely faster than even that.

But by mentioning the tedious email process, it seems like automation is being over glorified especially since you can completely ignore the emails.
